Mushroom Cultivation for 60 Small & Marginal Farmers in District Hapur
With an aim to offer a complete package of agriculture diversification with Mushroom – a medicinal plant cultivation, which involves 60 progressive small-scale farmers and women farmers from 5 villages of Hapur district was undertaken. To carry out mushroom cultivation successfully, 6 clusters consisting of 10 farmers each were made. Through the process of institutional development, skill building, demonstration, marketing and support, this project was completed in year 2024.
Global mushroom industry has expanded very rapidly in last two decades by the addition of newer types of mushroom for commercial cultivation. Despite of favorable agro climate, abundance of agro waste, relatively low cost labor and a rich fungal biodiversity, India has witnessed a lukewarm response in its growth. As per government data India in 2013-14 produced 17100 metric tons of mushrooms and by 2018 this increased to 487000 metric tons. India only accounts for about 2 % of the world mushroom production. China has 75% of global production. Therefore, to increase the production of Mushroom in India, with the support of NABARD, the organziation undertook this project.
